Choosing Your First Vibrator

Ever since Charlotte disappeared into her bedroom for an entire episode of Sex and the City, the world and her sister have wanted a vibrator... But which one?

When most people think "sex toy", they think "vibrator" - and not without good reason. Dildos can seem aggressive and frankly scary but their buzzing counterparts are fun, user-friendly and tantalisingly versatile.

The science bit

LoveHoney Jessica Rabbit 2.0 G-Spot VibratorVibrations feel so good against your skin because they increase blood flow to that area and boost its sensitivity - be it the nape of your neck, that super-sensitive spot between your partner's anus and balls or your clit. Vibes also work beautifully on your G-spot - especially those designed for the purpose like the LoveHoney Jessica Rabbit 2.0 G-Spot Vibrator - but, as with all sex play, penetration is only part of the story.

The clit's a hit

Sqweel Oral Sex SimulatorClitoral stimulators are the best-selling vibes in the world (no, really?). Happily, we have many clit-tickling treats for you to choose from.

Among the best-known are the rabbit vibrators, such as the Tracey Cox Supersex Rabbit Vibe. This dual-action vibe has a clitoral attachment that will transport you to screamer land and is best not used when your partner's mum is in the next room.

The LoveHoney 7 Function Vibrating Magic Cock Ring 2.0 spells fun for both of you - slide it over his penis during intercourse and soon neither of you will want to have sex without it.

It's important to remember that some of us don't like a direct plastic clit-hit, so try the revolutionary silicone tongues of our best-selling Sqweel Oral Sex Simulator instead.

Look! No hands!

LoveHoney 10 Function Remote Control Dream Egg 2.0 VibratorNo matter how good the in-flight movie is or how compelling the adverts on the Underground are, everyone finds travelling a bore. Or at least we did, until we discovered hands-free vibrators.

Here's a simple recipe for making your commute go with an 'Mmmm': slip the LoveHoney Remote Control Dream Egg 2.0 Vibrator inside you. Now catch your train and switch on the near-silent motor. The remote control works from up to 15 feet, so get your partner to travel further down the carriage and double the fun!

Is it a cock? Is it a vibe?

Pearl Shine 10 Inch VibratorAs rabbit fans know, even the hottest clitoral orgasms feel better when accompanied by a little penetration. And some of us, when we're talking penetration, want something that looks and feels like a real cock but supplies a more intense internal buzz.

The multispeed Thin Cock or 10-inch Pearl Shine provide deep penetration and are perfect for your partner to use while he's stimulating your clit. If you're a girth girl, grab an Extra Thick Cock - not one for the faint-hearted, but truly, madly, deeply satisfying.

Smooth operators

Tracey Cox Supersex Bullet VibratorThe versatility champs of the vibe world are the sleek, smooth bullet-shaped toys that can be used on any pleasure spot you fancy.

These are the vibes you'll find in our Bullet, Finger and Mini sections, where no-nonsense favourites like the Supersex Bullet sit alongside more sophisticated models like the gorgeous LoveHoney Magic Power Wand Mini Vibrator.

Egg me on

Tracey Cox Supersex Vibrating Love EggIf you love your vibrator but crave that satisfying stretched feeling, it's worth investigating the Tracey Cox Supersex Vibrating Love Egg or a pair of Ben Wa Balls.

Love Eggs are designed to provide subtle internal stimulation, either via vibrations or an internal weighted ball. Reach for these treats when you want something as smooth as a Lady Lustfinger but somewhat more... filling.

Give us a G!

We-Vibe Clitoral and G-Spot VibratorThere's a certain type of vibe that's happiest when it's buzzing snugly up against that hyper-sensitive spot they call the Big G. The spot is located on the front wall of your vagina, just an inch or two up, and it's often deprived of direct stimulation unless your partner is very canny with his digits or aims his cock correctly during sex.

To ensure a bullseye, grab the perfect couple's toy - the We-Vibe II Clitoral and G-Spot Vibrator - and use its dual motors to massage that sweet spot.

Anal Attention

Temptation Mini Anal VibratorAnal play is great fun and when combined with powerful vibrations, you’ll soon see why we’re evangelists of this saucy act!

Enjoyed by both men and women, the internal walls of the anus are super sensitive and can be stimulated in various different ways.

We highly recommend the Temptation Mini Anal Vibrator for beginners and more experienced users should take a look at the Ultra 7 Tush Teaser Anal Vibrator.

Just don't forget the lube!

Women Only?

LoveHoney Jessica Rabbit 2.0 Rabbit VibratorDespite the girly colours and Sex and the City connotations of toys like Jessica Rabbit, vibes are certainly not for girls only. But do exercise caution before whipping out your Vibrating Hard On Hollow Penis Extender during hot shagtastic loving.

We suspect that men are conditioned to run very fast from buzzing objects, so bring it up in conversation before you bring out the Large Crystal Ribbed Ass Shaker.

    Hi,

I hope you can help me. Up until approximately 2 years ago I purchased my vibrators from Ann Summers. Suddenly they stopped stocking the model I used to buy. I have tried other expensive models since, but sadly I find they are very dissapointing.

What set the original model apart was the high frequency of the vibration in the rabbit ears. I have not managed to find a model which vibrates at the frequency of the discontinued model. Advertisers do not concentrate on the frequency of vibration which in my opinion is the most important characteristic of the vibrator.

Can you help in identifying a model which vibrates at high frequency.

Would love to be a tester of your products.

    Thanks in anticipation,

    Caroline.

    Hi Caroline!

You may want to check out our fabulous Jessica Rabbit 2.0 Vibrator which is so powerful that many women won't use anything else to get them off: http://www.lovehoney.co.uk/product.cfm?p=14099

Alternatively, you may want to try something a bit different to a rabbit. Two of the most powerful vibrators in our collection are the Hitachi Magic Wand (http://www.lovehoney.co.uk/product.cfm?p=1993) and the very own LoveHoney Silencer (http://www.lovehoney.co.uk/product.cfm?p=287).

If you fancy being a sex toy tester, you can pop over to this thread in the LoveHoney Community forums and find out exactly what you need to do: http://www.lovehoney.co.uk/community/forums/orgasm-army/vibrators/66125-how-to-get-free-sex-toys-from-lovehoney/

    Hope that's helped!

Please can you help us!! My female partner and I (also female) want to use a strap on double vibe However my partner can only use "thin" ones. I have tried everything that looks thinner than the usual size vibe and even the feeldoe thin is too big for her. Can you recommend anything to help us.

I have received my LoveHoney Bang Bang Bullet, and it doesn't do anything for me, even when I use it on my clitoris. I bought it as I'm told self-pleasure is the way to orgasming during sex. My partner and I have been together for two years, but didn't have sex for one year. Before we did, I could fantasise and this sometimes led to an orgasm. Now, however, orgasms are a no-show even though we experiment and the results are very pleasurable. There have been a couple of close times, and I haven't the heart to tell him that I've never orgasmed with him. (We're each others first partners) I want to orgasm with him, but touching myself never really worked so I decided to give a vibrator a go.

As a first-timer, is there anything I should be doing with it? At the moment it just feels like something vibrating inside me.

Also any tips of bringing it up with him?

    Hi,

I'm looking to buy my first vibrator. I'm recently single and want to please myself but I don't know where to start! What should I be looking for as a beginner/?

  • Susan: June 25, 2009 21:06

hi, ive never used a vibrator before but am about to have radiotherapy treatment for cancer that will result in long term dryness and shrivelling of the vagina. i will be given dilators to keep it open and have been told that regular sex will help too. as my husband somethimes works away i thought i might as well have the pleasure of a vibrator to keep me 'open' rather than the boring dilators. please can you recommend a vibrator that is good for internal use as well as external and a lube that wont aggravate my skin, im looking for something like ky jelly but with a bit more tingle to it ;o).

  • LoveHoney - Carly: June 26, 2009 10:06

    Hi Ellie,

If you read the help given above, you'll find lots of excellent advice about first time vibes! The blog gives top tips and descriptions of each type of toy - from realistic to miniature - so you're sure to find one you like!

Many people like clitoral vibrators as they provide a quick and easy, yet amazingly sensual way to orgasm, so check out our special section with lots of Sale bargains here on LoveHoney: http://www.lovehoney.co.uk/store.cfm?cat=61

  • LoveHoney - Carly: June 26, 2009 10:06

    Hi Susan,

Many tingle lubricants contain L'Arginine and glycerin which can often aggravate sensitive skin. However, Sliquid have created a wonderful range of lubes that do not contain L'Arginine, glycein or parabens and are therefore skin safe! I'd highly recommend Sliquid Sassy as it lasts for ages, feels silky smooth and always has a delightfully cool nature to it - http://www.lovehoney.co.uk/product.cfm?p=11373

As for first time vibes that can be used internally and externally, you should first take a look at our Classic Vibrators range: http://www.lovehoney.co.uk/store.cfm?cat=5644
These are designed to tease the clitoris but are the right shape for insertion soon. They come in lots of sizes, shapes, colours, speeds and functions, so you're sure to find something you like.

If you want clitoral and vaginal stimulation at the same time then you need a Rabbit Vibrator! The Jessica Rabbit G-Spot Vibrator is ideal as it's slim, sexy, has multiple functions and provides sensual pleasure to both of your hot spots simultaneously: http://www.lovehoney.co.uk/product.cfm?p=15336

    Good lucka dn have fun!

  • Katie: September 02, 2009 03:09

Hi, i have had 2 vibrators, one which is still working but the other recently broke. im finding that generally they do not have strong enough vibrations, and were wondering which u can suggest for really powerful clitoral stimulation as well as my g-spot, which i hav had difficulty stimulating.
    Thanks
    Katie

  • LoveHoney - Carly: September 02, 2009 08:09

For super strong vibrators, take a look at the mains powered section' As these run off normal electricity, they're amazingly stimulating:
    http://www.lovehoney.co.uk/store.cfm?cat=62

Similarly, why not take a look at the Vibratex Mystic Wand - it's the most powerful battery operated vibrator we've ever felt:

  • anahi: September 10, 2009 00:09

i am a married women and i want to get a vibrator cause i always wanted one, but the problem is my husban ddoesnt like them. what should i dop???

  • LoveHoney - Carly: September 10, 2009 08:09

    Hi anahi!

The key thing here is communication, communication, communication!

Men often get worried that sex toys will become a replacement for them or that the sex toy will do a better job than he can - you just need to reassure him that that's not the case.

Maybe have a calm but informal chat with your partner about vibrators, mentioning that a couple of your friends have them or that there was a study done recently that suggested that sex toys actually make relationships stronger. Find out why he doesn't like them and why he doesn't want you to have one. At the end of the day, it's your decision, but you need to show him that he can get in on the fun too by using it on you or having it used on him!

Check out this blog for more advice: http://www.lovehoney.co.uk/blog/2008/06/27/introduce-vibrator-into-relationship/

  • Alan G: September 24, 2009 08:09

Hello, myself and my partner (also male) are looking for the smallest anal dildo on the market. This is because it will be my first time and I want to ease myself into it and see if I like it (I'm sure i will!). All help will be greatly receved.

    Cheers, Al

  • LoveHoney - Carly: September 24, 2009 09:09

    Hi Alan,

You may want to take a look at this blog instead: http://www.lovehoney.co.uk/blog/2008/06/21/how-to-choose-butt-plug/

It has some great advice on anal sex toys for beginners!

Similarly, you may wish to search the anal dildos category by size. To do this, simply visit this page (http://www.lovehoney.co.uk/store.cfm?cat=10117) and use the 'Refine Your Selection' tool at the top!
